Toxicity testing
with the use of nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (ISO 10872)
This nematode based toxicity test can be applied to assess the toxicity of:
Environmental samples (soil, sediment, groundwater, wastewater)
Chemicals (pesticides, pharmaceuticals, nanoparticles and any type of xenobiotic)
Any type of suspect toxicant
ISO 10872 can also be used for
The testing the toxicity of environmentally hazardous substances in spiked sediments and soils.
Ecotoxicological testing of new chemical or biochemical products, such as biocides, pesticides (including nematicides), pharmaceutical, fertilisers and other soil health products.
BioEcoServe
provides
Exposure of nematodes onto soil/sediment/water/chemical sample for a duration of 96h. Subsequent observation of nematode mortality and sublethal endpoints such as nematode growth and fertility take place.

LC/LD 50 tests
"Lethal dose" LD50 is the dose of the material, per animal body mass unit, that causes the death of 50% the test animals.
"Lethal concentration" LC50 is a concentration of a chemical in an environmental sample that kills 50% of the test animals during the observation.
These tests measure the poisoning potential and acute toxicity of a material.
